Virtual working is not healthy for business
For companies to thrive, they need physical interaction. Not just talking, but meeting. Personal contact and face-to-face brainstorming stimulate new ideas and champion corporate culture. That’s why most organizations want their staff back in the office, at least on a part time basis.
But some employees are reluctant to return. Anxiety about contracting illnesses persists and people have got used to WFH. If companies are to entice employees back, infection control and employee health need to be top of the management agenda.

Air quality has never been more important
As the world emerges from lockdown and people start to gather again in indoor spaces, the threat of airborne transmission escalates. The World Health Organization (WHO) now advises that Covid-19 is mainly spread through the air. The CDC also warns that the Delta variant causes more infections and spreads faster than earlier forms of the virus that causes Covid-19.
There is also evidence to suggest that, after a protracted period of social distancing and mask wearing, people have weaker immune systems to defend themselves against the onslaught of respiratory viruses like flu and the common cold, as well as Covid-19 and its variants.
Businesses are rightly concerned about protecting their employees, customers and other stakeholders. As a by-product of that protection, they also want to reduce absenteeism and increase productivity, two further advantages of good indoor air quality:
- In the USA, airborne contaminants result in $150 billion of illness-related costs per year. Of that, $93 billion represents lost productivity from headaches, fatigue, and irritation associated with sick building syndrome (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).
- A study quoted by the World Green Building Council suggested that enhancing the quality of the air in an office environment could be as effective in reducing transmission of airborne viruses as vaccinating 50-60% of the population.
An office air purifier can close the air change gap
However, many buildings struggle to achieve the WHO’s recommended air change rate of 10 litres per second per person. It is often an unrealistic expectation, especially in conference rooms with high occupancy levels and back to back meetings.
That’s where portable air purifiers come in to close the gap. But. of course, not all air purifiers are the same.
The CDC recommends portable HEPA filtration units that combine High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters with high fan speeds as a preferred option for auxiliary air cleaning. Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation is also cited as a supplemental treatment to inactivate SARS-CoV-2. Other authorities such as the WHO, SAGE and EPA also stipulate that, in the absence of effective mechanical or natural (outdoor air) ventilation, a good air purifier should be based on HEPA and UVC technologies. HEPA filter air purifiers can either work in isolation (single or multiple units) or they can supplement an in-built Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system to eliminate airborne impurities and improve office air standards.

Pure air boosts brain power
A major new study from Harvard University shows that there is a direct relationship between the amount of ultra fine particles in the air and how people perform in mental tests. The more polluted the air, the worse people perform. Read more..
RENSAIR – HOW IT WORKS
1. PRE-FILTERS
The Rensair air purifier sucks in the surrounding air from the top inlet perforations. Air travels through the removable pre-filters placed at the top of the machine, which catch and trap larger airborne particles and dust.
2. FAN
A powerful fan pushes the pre-filtered air down into the cylindrical shaped H13 HEPA filter located in the middle of the unit. The fan creates high static air pressure in the cylinder, which is necessary to allow sufficient air to flow through the high quality H13 HEPA filter and to boost air cleaning capacity.
3. HEPA H13 FILTER
As air hits the H13 HEPA filter, bacteria, viruses and smaller airborne particles and pollutants become trapped on its inner surface and held in place.
4. UVC LIGHT
An 18w UVC lamp placed in the centre of the cylindrical drum continuously illuminates the entire filtration area. The UVC light breaks down the DNA and RNA of pathogens and thereby inactivates them. This continuous disinfection process ensures that the Rensair air purifier is always safe to operate and maintain.
5. CLEAN AIR
Large volumes of clean air travel out of the unit via the lower perforations. The cylindrical shape of the Rensair air purifier allows air to flow out in every direction, enabling effective air circulation suitable for almost all locations.
